Textbooks

This course has a strongly recommended textbook which you will use for (a) homework assignments, (b) assigned pre-class readings, and (c) learning the course material generally.  You probably already have this textbook from PHY2403F; if not, please find yourself a copy immediately:-

  • Michael Peskin and Daniel Schroeder, “An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory”.

I also recommend that any serious student planning a career in HEP Theory studies a new textbook by Tom Banks entitled “Modern Quantum Field Theory” – it’s very good. I will be using it as a secondary source in preparing my lecture notes, along with an older “Quantum Field Theory” text from the 1980s by Lewis Ryder. Mark Srednicki of UCSB also has a nice new QFT examples text that I may use as supplementary material.
