Reading for Nov 28

Hi everyone,

It was fabulous to see almost all of you in class today. Yay!

Next week we will be talking about two big ideas that came out of string theory: (1) Extra Dimensions of Space and (2) T-Duality. To prepare for our discussion, please read

• chapter 8 of Greene “More Dimensions Than Meet the Eye”, which is all about extra dimensions of space;
• chapter 10 of Greene “Quantum Geometry” – up to page 254 only - which is all about T-duality. (Note: this stuff is subtle, so don’t be concerned if it doesn’t quite hang together yet on a first reading. The stuff about the spectrum of modes is especially advanced. We’ll cement your understanding together in class on Nov 28th.)
